Protropy Foundation
Protropy is a 501(c)(3) private operating foundation rooted in the Rocky Mountains. We bridge the gap between scientific inquiry and local action—conducting applied research, practicing regenerative agriculture, and building the foundations for sustainable community development.
Practical Solutions for the Rocky Mountain West
We develop hands-on solutions for the specific ecological challenges of high-altitude living. Standard land management often falls short in our environment, where extreme winds, a short growing season, and local wildlife create constant pressure.
By testing innovative research against these realities, we find what actually works on the ground. We take an active role in our environment—transforming environmental liabilities into sustainable agricultural assets and sharing our findings to help our community navigate the unique demands of mountain life.

Featured Initiatives

Pine Slash Composting Research
We are researching ways to turn wildfire mitigation waste into nutrient-rich soil. By processing pine slash on-site, we convert a major wildfire liability into a productive resource for mountain land.
Peak Harvest Ranch
Our living laboratory serves as a proving ground for sustainable high-altitude agriculture. We use the ranch to test and refine growing practices designed to withstand short seasons, poor soil, and extreme weather. As we identify the most resilient varieties, we are developing a seed-saving program to bank successful seeds that are specifically adapted to thrive in our mountain environment.

Community Engagement
We build local food security and provide ecological education through hands-on events. From mountain-grown contests to collaborative research, we work alongside our neighbors to strengthen our community.
